Abstract

The effect of granola on LDL-cholesterol concentration of sera and hearts of experimental animals were investigated in this study. Results revealed that there were no signficant differences in the LDL-cholesterol concentrations in both ser and hearts of test and control group (P>0.05) respectively. The mean weight gained by the granola fed and control animals were also examined and found to be 88.8g and 147.1g respectively, and statistically, the granola fed groups gained significantly lower weight than the control group (P=0.01). These results indicate that granola meal withits rich source of dietary fibre may not serve as source of dietary substitutes required to retrogress clinical conditions such as atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease but could be helpful in dietary weight reduction programme.
