Abstract
Lecturers’ performance in the classroom is the lifeblood of the educational enterprise. Lecturers weave a combination of their knowledge, skills and abilities into specific performance competencies that become drivers of student learning and achievement. It is in view of this that the research is poised to examine the influence of evaluation, motivation and computer competency on lecturers’ job performance in Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria. The population of 212 lecturers was random sampled. The age range of the lecturers was between 24 years and 63 years, with the mean age of 41.5 and standard deviation of 3.415. the ex-post factor research design was used. Twenty-four questions named Lectures Job Performance Scale (LJPS) developed by the researchers with three sub-scales were used in generating the data for the study. Data analysis involved the use of multiple regressions (Step wise) and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The results indicated the three variables contributed 67.1% to the Lecturers’ Job Performance. This was further buttressed by the F-ratio that is significant (F3, 208=31.7361,P<.05). Also, lecturers’ performance is positively correlated to evaluation (r=.313; p<.05); motivation (r=.914, p<.05) and Computer competency (r=.516, p<.05); Motivation is found to be correlated with Computer competency (r=.516, p<.05) and evaluation (r=.589, p<.05). Finally, motivation was found to be the highest predictor of lecturers’ job performance followed by evaluation and lastly by computer competence. On the basis of this, it was then suggested that:
Lecturers should be motivated the more to get optimum performance from them.
More seminars on computer competency should be held for lecturers so as to enhance their performance.
